Build Trip February 24-26, 2017

missiontripHere’s your invitation to join the team from La Crescenta Presbyterian Church for a radical adventure in missions. If you’re high school age or older and in reasonably good condition, read on. Opportunities like this don’t come around very often.

WHERE ARE WE GOING? Rosarito is a tranquil, mid-sized town along the coast about 15 miles south of Tijuana, MX. LCPC was given a lot in the hills above the city where we’re building a 3-story orphanage with ocean views that will eventually accommodate 38 children. We’ll be driving by church vans to Rosarito where we’ll stay in a comfortable, secure facility designed for mission teams. We’ll be joined in Mexico by Jim Sedgwick and other friends from La Jolla Presbyterian Church.

WHAT’S THE SCHEDULE? We’ll leave from the LCPC parking lot on Fri, February 24 at 7 p.m. (having eaten dinner) and return by about 6:00 p.m. on Sun, February 26 (could up to an hour later depending on traffic and the lines at the border). We’ll be working all day Sat at the orphanage site. We’ll worship with our friends at Calvary Chapel, Rosarito on Sun morning and will probably tour another orphanage before we return.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD AND LODGING? The mission house where we’ll stay is clean and well-furnished. We’ll eat breakfasts there. We’ll also enjoy a great taco lunches on Sat and Sun, and Sat dinner at a fun Rosarito restaurant.

WHAT KIND OF WORK ARE WE DOING? Working with a team of skilled masons from Calvary Chapel in Rosarito, we’ll continue construction of the foundation of the Casa de Los Angeles Orphanage. No special skills are required! Everyone will be able to make an important contribution.

WILL WE BE SAFE? The highly-publicized violent crime in Mexico generally occurs in isolated areas, and between drug cartels and the police. Rosarito is a low-crime region. Also, we will be traveling as a group and will always be near friends who live and work in the Rosarito region.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? You must have a valid passport to enter and leave Mexico! You’ll also need work clothes, work gloves, a fleece or pullover, rain parka, sunglasses, toiletries, sunscreen, business casual clothes for church and eating out and a Bible. Optional but helpful: Cell phone, camera, journal, tape measure, hammer with claw, tool belt. You will need about $20 Sat dinner.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? You don’t have to be a member of the LCPC family to participate. Anyone high school age or older is eligible. LCPC reserves the right to exclude people that are unwilling or unable to abide by the “Mission Trip Covenant” found on the registration form.

WHAT’S THE FEE? HOW DO I REGISTER? $80 covers the cost of transportation, lodging, and all meals except Sat dinner and Sun lunch. Mail or bring in your registration form and check (payable to LCPC, noted “Feb 2017 Rosarito Mission Trip”) to the LCPC main office, 2902 Montrose Ave., La Crescenta, CA 91214. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Feb 21, or when the group size reaches 20.

NOTE: The construction supplies and workers’ wages will be paid from a separate fund and are not covered by your trip fee.

QUESTIONS? Call or email Andy Wilson ( or Nancy Thomas ( LCPC: 818-249-6137.

Thank You!
